Last minute preps before possible Black/Bloody Friday for Wall Street

So it looks like the shit might hit the fan tomorrow morning on Wall Street with the bailout plan falling apart quicker than George W's approval ratings.

I am going to do some last minute preps to make sure I don't have to go out anywhere other than work this weekend and Monday.

Gasing up both cars right now. I am hitting up my local grocery store to get a few hundred in extra food, bottled water and drinks, plus some other stuff. Tomorrow I will be hitting up AIMSurplus to pick up a couple cases of ammo for the new AK and a case of ammo for the AR along with some extra mags for both. Also gonna get a couple hundred worth of hard liquor tomorrow.

I hope things don't get too crazy. I am taking my father to the Cleveland Browns vs. Cincinnati Bengals Sunday afternoon to watch 2 of the worst teams in football.

Anyone else gonna prep for what might happen this weekend?

Re: Last minute preps before possible Black/Bloody Friday for Wall Street

I've been eating and drinking a little from my preps for a few months. Sounds like the perfect time to top off the supplies. I will be out at the gas station tonight and at Sams Club and the Super Walmart in the morning.

I was watching "The day after tomorrow" last night with the girlfriend. She has a roommate with a baby. The girlfriend knows about my firearms and food stores. She asked if I would help her out or let her die in a crisis situation, and then went on to ask, what about my roommate and her baby?

It's gonna get ugly for those prepared, when all of those not prepared have people asking for handouts. I wish my girlfriend did not know about my preps, but its hard to hide the pantry, my trips to the range, gun store, as well as the boxes of ammo left on the doorstep by UPS.

I will probably top up the gas tank and grab a few more things for the pantry tonight. If tshtf tommorrow I am not too worried.

Withdrew as much as possible from the bank. Stuck the cash with the PM's. I thought it funny that the cash would likely be stolen before the PM's which are worth many multiples the cash. Safe anyhoo.

Not gonna bother filling the car... being in Canada I should have some warning. Maybe.

My sister in law in Britain sez mortgages are almost impossible to get. Anecdotal, fwiw.

If things blow up my first step will be to hide 90% of my food storage. If the cops (or whoever) ever come to get the remaining 10% I'll get the kids to cry. :D

She's mentoned my guns around other people before and I've had it with that, so I expained to her that I did not want her mentioning it to anyone. I explained to her what guns cost, and that it's like telling people you have that much cash in your house. People talk, and before you know it, its not one person that knows it's 30 and they are wondering where you live.

She told 2 of her best friends about my guns and her parents. One best friend told her husband who then wanted to go shooting. Took him to the range, now at least 5 other people have heard about that range trip. It's a terrible thing.

I kind of just stated joking around about the question. She said they would be traveling to my house if anything happened. I said, "I won't be there when you arrive. I will be gone, I'm getting out of town to my parent's house".

She just said. "So you would let us die"? I said, "Of course not" with a smirk on my face, and she said "fine, we will go to my parents house". It was pretty light hearted discussion, but its too scary for me to think about. Three months of water for one person, turns into nothing for 6 people. Interesting decisions are going to have to be made by many people.

(I intend to let them find a little something so they leave sooner.)

My grocery bill tonight wasn't bad at all. Only spent $60 but I filled out a few gaps I had in my food preps. I thought it was going to be more, most of the stuff I bought was on sale so I lucked out.

Dude, sounds like she is one of those people that doesn't think it will happen. Now, because of her big fat yammering mouth, the whole county knows that you have plenny-o-water'n'gunz'n'BBQ fer ever'one in the event of an emergency.

Oh, wait until a cop or member of the MSM gets wind of it and you get a visit "investigating a report of hoarding".

Maybe it is time for her to be pinked slipped and replaced with a new woman. Tell her you turned gay, or you slept with her best friend. Actually, the magic words that cut off all argument and cause her to immediately vacate your life are...

"I am sorry honey, I just do not love you anymore".

The SILVER BULLET of break up phrases.

You can get a premium membership on FriendFinder.com for about $30 a month.

I am sure you can find one that can either keep her mouth shut (or maybe even share your views) or that you can hide your food and weapons preps from?

(channeling Twisted here) Loose lips sink ships. Too late for Scott, but let this be a warning for others. Talk of preps should now be kept among inner circle only. That is, close family, and like-minded friends. Anybody who is not awake by tomorrow, is not likely to wake up ever, or at least not in enough time to do themselves any good. The risk-reward has shifted to where you risk more by blabbing about your preps than you stand to gain by educating the sheep. If they don't call you seeking help after they see WaMu on the news tomorrow, write them off as zombies and move on. Add as much extra food & water as you can stand, but do so quietly.

As for last minute preps, yessiree-Bob I am doing them. Spend 'em if you got 'em.

I'm not in the USA, so preps aren't exactly the same. In my case, lots of rice, beans, tuna etc... Plus a fair amount of gold and about $1k cash. I'd rather be where I am than the USA this fall!

All I can say is suddenly I don't look so crazy to anyone who's been following my preps.

I just hope I have a chance to pick up my paycheck and finish my preps before TSHTF. I've been focusing on gun wants instead of living needs.

I can tell you, based on personal experience, that Ragu spaghetti sauce lasts well beyond its expiration date. I've eaten sauce that was 2 years older than that. Apart from some physical deterioration at the very top of the jar where the sauce had darkened somewhat and thickened (no more than 1/8 inch wasted), the appearance and flavor were absolutely OK. Expiration dates are extremely conservative. You did well. Spaghetti sauce is great with lots of different foods, including beans, rice, cooked meat etc. Ragu isn't just for pasta.

At Sam's. picked up 6 cases of water (25 gallons), two large dry roasted peanut containers, 16 cans of peas, and some chex mix. Filled up one car at the gas station. Second trip to a grocery store in about 30 minutes. Probably back to Sam's tomorrow for another 6 cases of water.

Oh and all on the Discover card even though I have it in my bank account. I figure if the credit markets seize up why not have it on the card.

Broke the bank today. Figured I just as well spend it on preps and get it out of the bank. No one in my house will go hungry or sit in the dark, or have a headache, or anything else!!!

One thing made me mad though... I bought a 25# bag of rice, it was one of the first things to go into the trunk. At the last store, I bought a gallon of bleach. Didn't think, and threw it in an open space (it was pretty full). Stupid bottle tipped and leaked on my rice! It was in one of those plastic mesh type bags... talk about mad! What a waste of my money.

Cans in general last waaaaay beyond the exp. date. There have been cans made in the early 1900's that were eaten 40 years later with no ill effects.

Anyone have a good link or story?

Just picked up a ton of bottled water and some dry food preps after work today.

Btw, it looks like I picked up the water just in time. The water I bought were 24 packs w/ 16oz bottles for 3.29 at Alidi. Note, this was a "closeout" price. They were being replaced by identical 24 packs but with smaller 10oz bottles for $3.29. :thumpdown

I've got a collapsible 300 gallon tank that I can fill with little notice from my tap. Dunno the cost per ounce but I'd venture to guess it's cheap. :D

Also got 1000 of them thar water treatment tablets and various filters. I'm also thinking about getting a couple of those bathtub style collapsible plastic "tanks"...

Oooh- got 2- 50 gallon hot water heaters. That'd be another 100 gallons. :D

If I was forced to have a point it'd be: think BIG with water.

I live nex to a giant lake and I've also have a Berkey Light. Unfortunately though, I'm not sure if the black filters in it are still any good due to me not taking them out and sealing them up while the unit wasn't being used for several months.

I figured that the bottle water was a decent stopgap measure until I order another set of filters.

No good stories simply because I haven't come across any cans that old! But I had a tin of tomatoes, undented, maybe 5 years old - and it had bulged, badly. I was quite surprised - maybe a mistake at the factory? I threw it in the compost heap and put a few .22 rounds through it - maybe the rats will get botulism rather than I...

Burt Gummer should be Burt GIMmer...

I forward the motion to make him the official GIM mascot.

Choice 2 would be Drexl from True Romance but he's got a potty mouth.

Burt Gummer is my hero.

In one sequel he was eaten by a gravoid and his buddy cut the gravoid open with a chainsaw and Burt climbed out of the gravoid. Only a real man could survive being eaten by a gravoid.

What a man!

Ate some canned bacon just this year, that had been bought sometime around 1977. The bacon was fine, the lid had finally started to rust a little bit.

16 cases of bottled water from yesterday through today. 3 trips with a car. Topped off both cars, inflated tires. Heading to Wally World and Sports Authority camping sections tomorrow.

Last major project will be building a first aid/trama kit. Hope I have time.

If things stabalize this week it will make me happy to have more time. If not, I have the basics.
